Exploring for Possibilities
Core Motivation
People's choices vary widely. Take fashion, for example: some are content wearing the same outfits daily, while others have wardrobes full of diverse, extravagant styles. Some keep up with the latest trends, while others embrace their own unique tastes.
What might seem like a simple choice actually uncovers a lot about who we are. These aren’t just random lifestyle preferences—they’re driven by fundamental psychological needs. At the heart of it all, our actions are fueled by four primal human desires: variety, certainty, belonging, and significance. These forces don’t just influence our careers and relationships; they shape nearly every decision we make.
Motivation is the fuel necessary
to keep the human engine running.
Zig Ziglar
In Personality Ninja, these desires are embodied through four distinct Classes. Explorers yearn for variety, while Builders long for certainty. Leaders crave for belonging, while Evolvers strive for significance. Although all these needs influence our lives to some extent, only one will serve as the primary desire.
Advocates are part of the Leader Class, committed to improving the lives of those around them. Leaders in this context aren't individuals who command orders; instead, we're talking about people who prioritize the needs of others. More specifically, Advocates are Leaders focused on Solidarity, working to create connections among group members and foster unity within their communities.
Advocates as Leaders
True leaders do not command people; they invite them on a journey. Leaders are the ones who guide their communities by extending their hand, offering to open up new horizons for those who aren’t afraid to reach out. They strive to unleash the potential in others by inspiring them to explore beyond their boundaries. And while Leaders may not see themselves as extraordinary, the people around them do, for Leaders are often the catalysts creating a chain reaction of change.
Leadership is not a rank or a position, it is a choice—a choice to look after the person to the left of us & the person to the right of us.
Simon Sinek
Leaders want to be a part of something bigger than themselves, to belong to a collective with a common purpose and goal. As such, they value their communities, cherishing them like precious gemstones. To help their groups thrive, Leaders don’t mind sacrificing themselves to make it happen. Always placing others above themselves, Leaders do their best to push people towards greater heights, inspiring everyone to make an impact in the world.
Nothing is worse than those who are stuck to their own perspectives. Leaders find it impossible to fathom people who refuse to budge, even after repeated attempts to persuade them otherwise. Such individuals fail to realize that the consensus of the group holds substantially more weight than their selfish demands. Consequently, many Leaders will find these kinds of people to be a nuisance, as they are holding back the entire group from pursuing the next big thing.
Living their lives for others, Leaders are always looking out for the people around them, never hesitating to lend a hand to make sure that everyone is doing fine. Although some may see this as a thankless job, Leaders do not. That is because they find fulfillment in seeing the success of those they have uplifted. As the saying goes, no one has ever gone poor from giving, and Leaders understand this best.
While Advocates are of the Leader Class, they are also supported by the Explorer Subclass. When we say Explorers, we don't mean adventurers trekking through the wilderness; we refer to those who prioritize the discovery of the new. Specifically, Advocates are Explorers who seek Possibilities. They look for endless streams of ideas, illuminating paths that others might overlook.
Solidarity By Exploring For Possibilities
To Explorers, life begins where their comfort zone ends. Born to test the unknown, they search endlessly for experiences or ideas that no one has encountered before. With a sense of curiosity that knows no bounds, they will stop at nothing to quench their thirst for discovery. After all, Explorers believe that life is meant to be challenged eagerly and passionately. Because at a closer look, these formidable challenges are often just opportunities in disguise.
While others try to tame the inevitable chaos of life, Explorers thrive in it, recognizing the opportunities that it presents for discovery. Novelty is their bread and butter and they strive to learn something new every day. Not only do they keep their doors open to the new, they are also actively on the lookout for fresh experiences. As such, Explorers are always ready to try whatever life has to offer, unearthing the limitless wonders of this vast world.
"Exploration is about taking risks, pushing boundaries, and finding
out what you're capable of.
Being rebels at heart, Explorers hate being weighed down by plans and routines. Therefore, they welcome the winds of change, as it gives them a way out of a boring and predictable life. And while planning might not be their forte, Explorers excel in spontaneous environments. With a world brimming with wonders to explore, they see no reason to limit themselves to the well-trodden path. After all, why settle for the ordinary when Explorers can embrace the extraordinary?
Living life in circles leads to nowhere worthwhile. Therefore, Explorers never miss a chance to engage with the unknown, readily immersing themselves in every new experience or idea that comes their way. They understand that they only get one shot at life, and thus, they seek to discover as much about the world as possible before their time runs out. Ultimately, Explorers live their lives for one thing, and one thing only—the freedom to explore.
All in all, Advocates are Leaders who explore a wide spectrum of possibilities to bring their communities together. Based on their core motivation, each specific archetype possesses a distinct set of traits, giving birth to their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
Nevertheless, the themes covered thus far are merely the tip of the iceberg. To understand more about Advocates and discover their unique journey of growth, let us explore the next section where we will analyze the dominant aspects of the Advocate archetype.
