The NXT personality framework

Mochiverse

Introduction

You might be wondering what’s the deal with all these drawings of big-headed ninjas scattered throughout our website. The short answer is, it’s cute. The long answer, though, is that it’s all part of our thematic framework called the Mochiverse.

“Wait, what’s a Mochiverse?”

Well, the Mochiverse is the fictional universe where our adorable little ninjas reside. It’s also where all the magic happens. As you set foot into the Mochiverse, you will feel as though you are being transported into an entirely different realm. There, you will be immersed in a world where ninjas celebrate merrily in vibrant villages, engage in endless varieties of activities, and go for bold and daring adventures.

So why is our thematic framework called the Mochiverse instead of the Sushiverse, or the Ramenverse for that matter? Well, picture a mochi for a second. Do simple colored rice cakes come to mind? That’s pretty much what the Mochiverse looks like on the surface to most—just a bunch of simple colored ninjas.

But when one bites into the Mochiverse, so to speak, they will instantly experience a rush of dense sugary goodness, which in this case, is the dense and complex world of the Mochiverse. Because the truth is, there’s just so much themes and lore awaiting the curious mind.

Design Rationale

“Okay, I can see that. But what’s the point of the Mochiverse?”

The Mochiverse serves as a way to package our elaborate findings into something more appealing and digestible—sort of like a knowledge dessert—so that Internet passersby aren’t intimidated to dig into our relatively complex personality theory.

As you might have noticed, our theory involves many new concepts that may be difficult to grasp from the get go. If we presented them in a dry and technical manner, most of our readers would probably be bored to bits. That’s where the Mochiverse comes in. It acts as a medium that makes NXT much more delightful and entertaining for people to read through and understand better.

Because let’s face it, that’s just the way we humans are wired. Although there may be outliers who enjoy reading highly theoretical material, the majority of people don’t. To work around this, we had to transform NXT into something that people from all walks of life can relate to. This is where the science of human behavior comes in handy. Research has shown that humans tend to pay more attention to fun and cute things, as doing so floods our brains with dopamine—the neurochemical that motivates us to do things.

As such, all the artwork and ninjas that took us countless painstaking hours to draw, although aesthetically pleasing, are actually there to serve a larger purpose: to help propagate ideas that we believe can elevate the height of our collective consciousness. So, as you bite into the Mochiverse, not only are you getting a burst of fun, but also a mouthful of informative and life-changing content. And you know what? That’s a thousand times better than an actual mochi.

And honestly, academic experts aside, would you rather bury your head in a 300-page technical research paper titled “Methods and Procedures for Categorizing and Utilizing Multifaceted Typology Patterns” or would you rather achieve the same goal but by reading a website full of lighthearted drawings called “Personality Ninja?”

We rest our case. ツ

Personality Ninja

“Hmm, I guess that makes sense. But why ninjas?”

Well, for starters, being a ninja is one of the most badass things a person can ever be. Why? Because to be a ninja, one has to willingly put themselves through hardships that can break the spirits of even the most strong-hearted. And that is the type of mindset that we hope to cultivate in our readers. On top of that, based on our personal experiences, as well as many others, the best opportunities for growth often come when we feel the least comfortable.

Adding to that, we chose to center the Mochiverse around ninjas because in many ways, we the creators of NXT are sort of like ninjas ourselves. That is to say, other than our aliases, no one knows our real identities. For all you know, if you're living somewhere in Asia, we could be your college roommate, your next-door neighbor, or even your high school science teacher.

But to be honest, it doesn’t matter who’s behind the mask. Because the important ones are you guys, not us. After all, you don’t need to know who we are to utilize the ideas we put forth or embrace the values we stand for. More importantly, we don’t want people to agree with what we say simply because they like us, but because the things we say really do make sense. As such, we chose to conceal our personal identities from the public, becoming Internet ninjas in that sense.

Oh, and with all this talk about ninjas, there’s actually an Easter egg hidden in the NXT acronym. Officially, NXT stands for Neo-Jungian Experiential Typology. But among ourselves, we prefer to think of it as Ninja x Typology; a collaboration between Ninja and Typology. It’s nothing big, but it does make remembering NXT much more fun.

Visual Elements

“So how do you even create a personality ninja?”

What’s the most iconic part of a ninja? Their outfits of course!

It immediately brings to mind an image of deadly assassins treading atop narrow beams and across quiet streets, roaming the night unseen and unnoticed. However, instead of the purpose of stealth, the personality ninjas of the Mochiverse dress themselves in unique styles to express various aspects of their personality.

In other words, their attire serves as a way to differentiate themselves from other personality types. As such, if you observe our little ninjas closely, you will notice variations in their clothing and headgear.

Four different headgears.

Let’s start with their ninja headgear. If you were to compare them side by side, you will find that their headgear comes in four distinct shapes, each representing a certain Class.

The headgear that looks like a beret is worn by ninjas of the Leader Class. Its common design hints at the uniformity of an army unit, signifying a Leader’s desire for their communities to develop an esprit de corps by working as a team.

Moving on, the headgear that has two pointy ears coming out at the top is worn by ninjas of the Evolver Class. Its unique look hints at the independent nature of a feline who roams alone in the wild, signifying an Evolver’s desire to thrive as an individual of their own.

Next, the headgear that looks like the tip of a flame is worn by ninjas of the Explorer Class. Its intriguing design hints at the spontaneous nature of fire, signifying an Explorer’s desire to uncover the unknown by diving freely into uncharted territory.

Finally, the headgear that is shaped like a rounded square is worn by ninjas of the Builder Class. Its simple look hints at the predictability of a perfectly designed shape, signifying a Builder’s desire for their lives to play out according to their set expectations.

Four different clothing.

Next up, their clothing. Just like their headgear, there are four different styles of clothing that are worn by the personality ninjas. But instead of representing one’s Class, a ninja’s clothing represents one’s Type Drive.

First off, ninjas who drape a poncho over themselves are Reflectors. By wrapping a poncho around their entire body, these ninjas project an air of mystery, which is rather fitting, considering that they tend to have personalities that are relatively reserved. Furthermore, these loose and cozy ponchos are extremely useful as it keeps them comfortable during their moments of solitary contemplation.

On the other hand, ninjas who wear sleeveless robes are Interactors. These robes are commonly worn by the inhabitants of the Mochiverse. As such, by wearing simple robes, Interactors signal to others that they are just like everyone else, making them much more approachable. Additionally, these robes grant its wearers unrestricted mobility, which is convenient for Interactors who are constantly on the move.

Other than that, ninjas who don a haori over themselves are Directors. A haori is a garment traditionally worn by individuals of higher status. In the case of Directors, they wear haoris as they are often guiding and giving advice to others, naturally making them the ones in charge. More importantly, a haori is considered formal attire, which is why Directors wear them as they want to look professional.

Lastly, ninjas who wrap a bandana around their necks are Analyzers. This style of clothing evokes the image of a lone ranger, which reflects the spirit of Analyzers who constantly wander into untouched frontiers. In addition to its symbolic value, the bandana serves as an extra layer of protection against harsh environments that Analyzers may encounter on their never-ending adventures.

Four different headgears.

All of this is just a mere glimpse into the vast and boundless lore of the Mochiverse. There are still countless legends that are undiscovered, and even more tales left untold. Unfortunately, this is all that shall be revealed for now. To explore all that took place in this inconceivably ancient world requires monumental effort, and trust us, it would take more than just a brief eternity to complete.

But fret not, for although we may never uncover everything that has transpired in the distant past, one can always stick around to see what happens in the near future. After all, the world of the Mochiverse does not simply end with a full stop. So long as our little personality ninjas are out and about, one is sure to find an endless wave of riveting stories and gripping adventures waiting to unfold.

Ninja Villages

“I remember reading about villages too, what’s that about?”

Ah, the villages, home to our personality ninjas. There are actually four of them scattered throughout the Mochiverse, found in areas of distinct climate and terrain. Some villages sit atop mountainous valleys while others stretch across sandy isles. And although some might find this surprising, villages can even be found among fluffy stretches of clouds, and in the scorching heart of a volcano.

Having said that, what makes each village special, isn’t the geography they are built on. Rather it is the ninjas within them that makes each village truly stand out. Every village is made up of a potpourri of ninjas who hail from various clans, enabling ninjas of all shapes and sizes to flourish. Yet, despite their many differences, the ninjas are ultimately bound by a shared way of life, allowing each village to derive strength from both its diversity and unity.

So, what do our little ninjas do in their villages? Well, unlike typical ninjas, they don’t necessarily go around assassinating targets and committing espionage. Instead, they live ordinary lives, engaging in activities that also exist in our world. Thus, a typical day for a village ninja may consist of all sorts of things, whether it be attending town hall meetings, surfing at the beach, or protecting the environment.

It is also worth noting that the Mochiverse is not a fairytale, nor are its villages perfect utopias. It is a reflection of the real world, making its issues fundamentally the same as ours. That’s why problems like wars and illegal poaching are not unusual or unheard of there.

On the bright side though, like humans, our personality ninjas harbor a great capacity for good as well. Many of them are willing to do what is right, even if it puts them in grave danger. As such, the Mochiverse is fortunate to have such selfless ninjas, because if not for them taking up such thankless roles, the Mochiverse would not be the peaceful and harmonious place we know today.

The four villages that exist in the Mochiverse are the Earth, Water, Fire, and Air Village. Culture varies from village to village, with each village carrying their own unique way of life. We decided to name the villages after these particular elements as we felt that they perfectly embody the atmosphere and spirit of their respective villages.

Not only that, the name of the village lands find their roots in ancient mythical beasts known as the Shijū (四獣). Our ninjas believe that eons ago, the Shijū once roamed the very lands where their villages now stand. Although the Shijū have all but vanished from the face of the Mochiverse, our ninjas continue to regard them as the guardians of their lands. As such, they named their realms after these mythical creatures to honor the legacy of the Shijū.

Ninja Clans

“The villages are interesting, but what about clans?”

Legend has it that the earliest ancestors of the personality ninjas were originally animals native to the Mochiverse. According to the Mochidex, a mysterious event unfolded millions of years ago as the planets aligned, transforming countless animals into ninjas. These newly transformed ninjas went on to master the art of ninjutsu, and later on established the eight ninja clans, known today as the Falcon, Fox, Bear, Owl, Wolf, Deer, Otter, and Badger Clan.

The eight original animals of Personality Ninja.

While the first ancestors are now long gone, their descendents believe that their spirits live on within them, protecting their clan’s lineage to this day. It comes as no surprise then, that each personality ninja shares a spiritual connection with the ancestors of their clan. What’s interesting though, is that if a ninja strengthened this connection, they would then wield the unique ability to shapeshift into their clan animal at will. However, ninjas rarely shapeshift for fun as the power to do so is taken very seriously in the Mochiverse.

Apart from that, there is usually a strong sense of kinship among ninjas belonging to the same clan. They understand each other well as their minds operate on a similar wavelength. Unfortunately, their likeness in thought also makes them susceptible to the same blindspots. Therefore, the various clans naturally found themselves working with one another to balance out their strengths and weaknesses. This gave rise to a synergistic relationship that led to the formation of villages.

For generations, the ninja clans coexisted in harmony, despite their differences. Consequently, each village became a unique melting pot of cultures, fusing their distinct personalities into one shared identity. And as years passed, the bonds between the clans only grew stronger, slowly evolving into the unified villages of the present day. As such, the ninja clans are truly the lifeblood of a village as they forge the diversity that grants each village its strength and resilience.

The eight ninja clans are scattered throughout the Mochiverse, and as we shall explore further on, they are each rooted in their own distinct priorities, beliefs, and perspectives.
